TRIBUTE TO MR MOHAN SINGH DHAMRAIT OBE
 
Mr Mohan Singh Dhamrait OBE, was already a member of the Board of Governors of St Mary’s Catholic High School, Croydon, as the Local Authority representative, at the time I was appointed Head Teacher. He remained on the Board throughout my tenure.
 
His background in the Trade Union Movement gave him an advantage in challenging me on personnel matters and helped me immensely in compelling me to be well versed in employment legislation.
 
I was quick to realise how thorough he was in reading the documentation for Governors’ meetings as he would prepare very many questions that I had to clarify.
 
All his actions were genuinely aimed at improving the lot of the students at St Mary’s by ensuring that staff welfare was given prominence to enable them carry out their duties diligently without added stress.
 
Mr Dhamrait always worked behind the scene to ensure that I did not deviate from my vision for the school that I expressed at the time of my appointment. He was very professional in his approach and always reminded me that he had to be “a critical friend” and so indeed he was.
 
He was one of the Governors that I really missed at the time I left on my retirement.
 
May I express my sincere condolences to his family with the assurance that he lives on in our hearts and minds for his unshaking dedication to duty and his contribution to education in Croydon.
 
May the soul of Mr Mohan Singh Dhamrait OBE, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace.
