A few Steps along with Uncle Mohan

Dear Mohan Uncle,

As we celebrate your journey through this world, I find myself to be very lucky to have walked a few steps along with you and having spent some golden moments with you.

I still remember the first time I met you in 1996 at Santa Rosa. You were busy attending a conference. I did not know, then, who you were destined to be over the next few years - an OBE. But what I remember is your openness, your honesty and your humble and caring nature. It was contagious and I became a big fan of yours.

As I was flipping through the pages of my memory, I must say, my best trip to India was the time I spent with my bro (Jasvir bhaji), your bro (Sohan uncle), and  of course you in 2006. It has been the most enjoyed and the most memorable vacation of my life. I really enjoyed that trip when we attended Laada’s wedding at Bharta and then my nephew (Channi’s) wedding at Ludhiana. The carefree moments of Bhangra together and dining and wining together were loads of fun. And then there was Bhaiyaji as well to add to the fun. Altogether, those moments are engraved in my memory.

How can I forget our trip to Monetary Bay with auntie, Sucha uncle, and you! It was so much fun. Since then, every time we visit Monterey Bay, we remember you all and the fish and chips we had with you. Your beer rules!

In-between and afterwords, we met several times. We met in the US and we met in India. Vic’s wedding was another fun-filled occasion when we enjoyed every moment of the wonderful wedding.

Last year, we eagerly waited for you to come to the Bay Area one more time. COVID was the reason the occasion was canceled and so was your trip :( And now, the same COVID completed your journey. I wish we had some more moments to walk together. Alas!

Uncle, now that you have left us for heavenly abode, you will be missed dearly.

Your fond memories will live forever.

May the almighty bless your soul!
