Dedicated to the memory of Mohan Singh Dhamrait OBE

This site is a tribute to a 'beautiful soul', Mohan Singh Dhamrait OBE. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure. He is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

Mohan Singh Dhamrait OBE sadly passed away on 22 January 2021 at the age of 80 years old, after a short battle with COVID-19. He was one in a million, genuine, kind hearted and loving and helpful towards everyone he knew. Mohan was a unique human being with a pure heart. He had a passion for socialising with family and friends, gardening, photography and loved visiting places.

Mohan will be remembered by all as a gentleman, loyal, genuine, hardworking and committed person in all that he did. He led by example, he was a 'man of the people'. He dedicated his life to helping others, he had such a kind soul and was always so forgiving. Mohan’s inner belief in all that he did was to add value and support others. As Albert Einstein said:

‘Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value’

Mohan was a loyal and dedicated son, brother, husband, dad, granddad, uncle, cousin, friend and colleague.

Mohan was born a twin with his brother Sohan in Fiji on 22 March 1940. Mohan came to the UK aged 16 in November 1956. He married Surjit on 15 August 1971, sadly he just missed their 50th Wedding Anniversary milestone. He was loving dad to Jagjit and Inderjit and also took extreme pride in his four grandchildren Gurvinder, Amardeep, Amol and Kiran. He worshipped his sister Pritam Kaur, who sadly also passed away with COVID-19 on 25 March 2020. He was devoted to his twin brother Sohan and younger brother Sucha. On the same date that Mohan passed away, exactly four years ago in 2017, his dear nephew, Daljit Dhamrait at the age of 40, sadly passed away from a heart attack. Mohan also adored his cousins, nephews and nieces. He loved everyone, all his family and friends.

Mohan was dedicated to his Sikh faith, participating in regular service at Khalsa Centre Tooting and Croydon Gurdwara (Sikh Temple).

Mohan worked as a Senior Spectrum Engineer, completing over 35 years of Government Service, his hard work and dedication was recognised when he was awarded an OBE. Specialising in radio regulatory, developments of radio standards and radio spectrum engineering field, including representing the UK at local and international meetings. He was committed and worked meticulously and professionally, often working long and unsociable hours, Mohan always worked to get the best outcome (he never complained).

Mohan also dedicated his time to union activity and was a champion of equal opportunities. He was a one off and this was marked with a celebration retirement event on 15 March 2001, where he was honoured with a ‘This is your life’ book which marked significant moments through his life and career. His colleagues became long-life friends, who he continued to maintain regular contact with.

SUCHA SINGH DHAMRAIT

My Dearest Brother, you are in my thoughts every day. You have always been there to support me throughout my life. I am missing you dearly and miss talking to you, who I am going to have to have to help me now. We all grew up together in Fiji, with our dearest Pita ji and Mata ji, elder Brother Sohan & Sister Pritam. I wish I can bring those days back; the memories are so close to my heart. We use to play in the sand, catch the crabs from the sea. I will always fondly remember Mata Ji afterwards cooking the crabs into a delicious curry. I also remember we had a farm, with chickens, climbing up trees, life was so great. When we returned to Fiji in 2005 it brought back amazing memories when visited the hospital where we were born, schools we had attended and then the beautiful family home we lived together in Suva, Fiji. I miss you so much my dearest Brother, Rest in Peace and will love you always.
